Giants Sweep on Hicks’ Homer, 4-1

27 Apr 14

15-10. Level 1. The Giants have made it to the first plateau, five games over .500. They did it on the strength today of Brandon Hicks’ ninth inning homer. Buster Posey had singled. Cody Allen decided to walk Brandon Crawford to get to Hicks. And there it went, a soaring shot over the left field wall.

Ryan Vogelsong, fresh from correcting his mechanics, allowed but 2 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2 over seven full innings. Yan Gomes gave Chief Wahoo his only run with a homer in the eighth off of Santiago Casilla. Sergio Romo was credited with the win for Hicks’ heroics after Romo had sat down for the Giants’ half of the ninth.

The Giants lead the West by 1.5 games over the Dodgers and the Rockies. At their current pace, the Giants would win 97 games in the season. Level 2, 10 over .500, is the next watering hole in what could be a gallup through the season.
