Zack Greinke improved his record to 2-0 by defeating the San Francisco Giants, 6-2, before a national television audience. Greinke is the Dodgers’ ace whilst Clayton Kershaw recovers from a back issue that placed him on the disabled list.
Hanley Ramirez and Matt Kemp provided the Dodgers’ offensive punch with two homers apiece. And so the dodgers wone the game by winning the pitching and the offensive battles.
Giants’ starter Matt Cain raised eyebrows that will likely graduate to pundits’ comments on Monday before the Giants’ home opener Tuesday afternoon. The Horse pitched his second lackluster game of the young season as he tangled with Greinke. The Giants went 5-2 on their season-opening roadtrip, but both losses were Cain starts though only the loss to the Dodgers was notched to Cain’s season record, making him 0-1. Demoted to number two in the rotation behind Madison Bumgarner, Cain, Giants’ fans hope, does not find himself in a free fall.
Brandon Belt slashed a trademark high big fly for his fourth homer of the season. Pence hit his first, to the opposite field, a no-doubter as Dan Shulman called it.
The Giants look to improve upon their record by winning their home opener Tuesday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
