Brandon Crawford teed off on Rex Brothers’ first pitch fast ball in the bottom of the tenth to give the Giants the win and the series win Sunday afternoon.

It was very sweet to see Crawford’s stroke on the lefty. Supposedly Crawford is weak against lefties, so weak that the manager had said he could very well platoon positions in the batting order with someone stronger against lefties. And he has platooned Crawford from the two hole to somewhere down the order on occasion. But now the blast to McCovey Cove provides more than a shadow of doubt about the wisdom of such a platoon.

Tim Hudson started for the Giants and lasted 7.1 innings and gave up 4 earned runs while striking out 5 and walking nary a hitter. Javier Lopez blew a save allowing the Rockies to tie the game at 4 in the eighth. Romo gathered the win keeping the Rockies scoreless in the tenth before Crawford’s big blast. Pablo Sandoval hit his second homer of the season.

The Giants have Monday off before they welcome their archrivals, the Dodgers, to San Francisco.
