From Memorial Day to the Fourth of July and from then until to Labor Day have zipped by as blinks of an eye. But as fast as it has been, the summer is ebbing, and most all of us are beginning the fall schedule or at least parts of it.
And so it is at Good Shepherd. Sunday School begins September 11, and registration forms for children are available in the Narthex. Laura Hopkins has charge of the Sunday School, and she can answer any questions you may have. The registration forms can be handed in by placing them in the alms basin, by giving them to any of us at the doors after the Eucharist, or by mailing them to the office.
Also on September 11, we shall return to singing a Processional Hymn and the Gloria in excelsis Deo, putting aside the Hymn of Praise in place of the Gloria, as we normally do from September through Trinity Sunday. Both practices agree with the directions in the Prayer Book.
The Gloria is a fourth-century hymn first used in daily prayers but later reserved for use in the Eucharist on feasts and Sundays except in Advent and Lent. The Prayer Book makes the Gloria available for use in Morning Prayer as well as the Eucharist. The hymn remains the unexceeded hymn of praise of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I anticipate also that on September 11 Good Shepherd will sponsor and host a Seasons of Love Dinner as we usually do on the second Sunday of the month. If you would like to join us in preparing and serving the Dinner, please let us know.
God bless you and grant you a good beginning to the busy season.
