Nine home runs in the game. San Francisco had 6, while the Rockies had 3. It was a Coors Field exclusive with lead changes propelled by dingers. It’s true of every baseball game, but it means something unique when after this game the words “the team ahead at the end was the winner” come to mind.
Hector Sanchez had 2 homers as did Michael Morse. Brandon Belt and Brandon Hicks added one apiece. Charlie Blackmon, Troy Tulowitzki, and Justin Morneau had one apiece for the Rockies.
Matt Cain started and allowed 7 runs, all earned. Five of them were in the first two innings. But he held them to but two runs in the third through the three batters he faced in the seventh.
Hector Sanchez’ grand slam in the eleventh was the winner though Justin Morneau brought the score closer in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run shot.
The Giants finish their roadtrip 2-4 and remain one game behind the Dodgers. The Giants are off Thursday, and they play the Indians on Friday evening and through the weekend.
