The Giants with a five-run eighth inning defeated the D-backs, 8-5, and won the first series of the year, 3-1, before traveling to Los Angeles to face their archrivals over the first weekend of the season.
The eighth inning provided the offense the Giants needed, and the fire power came from Angel Pagan’s three-run homer breaking the tied game open.
Tim Lincecum started the fourth game of the season and had a mostly-positive game, permitting 8 hits, 4 earned runs, striking out 7, and walking none in six full innings. Lincecum allowed two two-run homers, one in the first and the second in his last inning. Jean Machi claimed the win, his second, and Santiago Casilla grabbed his first hold of the season.
The Giants won the series with one quality start, Hudson’s, while Pence went 1 for 16, and Sandoval went 3 for 16. The glass is more than half-full if you interpret that to mean that the Giants have more offense ready to use to win games.
