The Giants put their newly-found offensive prowess on display at Dodger Stadium by scoring an insurmountable eight runs in the first two innings on the way toward defeating the Dodgers, 8-4.

Ryan Vogelsong toed the slab for the Giants but disqualified himself from winning the game by lasting but four complete innings. He allowed 7 hits, 4 earned runs, 4 strikeouts, and two homers. His ERA rests at 9.00. The official scorer declared David Huff the winner. Jean Machi and Javier Lopez each pitched an inning, and each kept their ERA in the basement at 0.00.

Dodger Yasiel Puig showed up late at the stadium for the home opener and was benched. Matt Kemp replaced him and went 1 for 4. Hanley Ramirez, Andre Ethier, and Dee Gordon collected two hits apiece in the losing effort. Ramirez singled in the seventh, and behind four runs he decided to steal second. The initial call declared him safe, but Giant manager Bruce Bochy challenged the call and won. Bochy now is 1-1 in challenges.

Hunter Pence’s slump worsened: he is 1 for 20. Pablo Sandoval robbed ex-Giant Juan Uribe of a two-run double that would have reduced the Giants’ led to 8-6 in the fifth inning.

53,493 sunned themselves at Chavez Ravine throughout the unmanageable three hours and twenty-five minute ballgame.
